About the firm:

Porte Rouge is a financial planning practice that works exclusively with families that have a rental property in their personal portfolio. The founder got the name for the business from her time working in Scotland where they have a tradition of painting their front door red once they’ve paid off their mortgage. The pride, celebration and sense of community this signified is at the heart of Porte Rouge’s culture.

About the role:

The intern will go through a 6 week training period getting to know the business, the clients and operations. After training the intern will identify potential projects, improvements and success metrics for the practice and with the team create a plan for implementation.

As the Porte Rouge Finance Intern you will:

  • Oversee daily operations and delegation and completion of essential tasks.

  • These are broken down into daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual tasks for our 4 profit centres (advisory, taxes, portfolio strategy + digital resources)

  • Checking in with clients to ensure they are meeting the laid out milestones, timelines and goals

  • With support from the lead advisor the intern will provide clients with deliverables to help support their decision making and resources to ensure easy

  • progress (ie. cash flow planning, projections, investment assessments, estate planning steps, Smith Manoeuvre Overviews, debt repayment plans, etc.)

  • Collect file requirements to ensure the team have all the information and documents required for seamless service

  • Digital file maintenance + management

  • Sit in on client meetings when needed

Knowledge/Experience that would be an asset:

  • Experience with project planning and the ability to take a big picture vision and break it down into bite sized steps

  • Interest and knowledge about real estate, finance/accounting industries

  • Ability to think out of the box and bring other industry ideas to the table to implement

  • Understanding of basic financial framework to make smart investment decisions & build wealth

  • Be able to troubleshoot while remaining calm and solution focused

  • Undertake research to identify suitable solutions to meet the client’s needs.

We use the following technologies daily, experience with them would be an asset:

  • Dubsado (client management + invoicing)

  • ClickUp (project management + task distribution)

  • Google (Drive, Email, Calendar)

  • Social Media: Facebook + Instagram

  • Zapier

The position is a 1 year contract with potential for permanent after 12 months. Work hours are full time (35 hours a week). This is a salaried position starting at $40,000/year with promotion incentives

  • Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Once hired, the candidate must reside in the Northern Ontario community in which they are employed.
