Oh… I’m Meghan by the way!! I’m the CEO and CFP lead advisor here at Porte Rouge. Quick backstory, I have a finance degree and for my first real big-girl job I got a very exciting position in Edinburgh Scotland at the Royal Bank of Scotland Head Office Branch. I am so grateful for every day (even the 100+ days of rain…in a row) I was there.

The three big takeaways from my time there was:

I love experiences + traveling, but I will never live away from my family again
The fun tradition that people paint their doors red when they pay off their mortgage

In Scotland there is a tradition of painting your front door red once you’ve paid it off. It’s something that’s always stuck with me. I think the reason I loved it so much is because it’s like checking off a box on your to-do list that also involves celebration, announcing to the world a big win and having your community be a part of the accomplishment.

So that’s where the name came from: Porte Rouge.

Pay it off. Paint red.

Getting your finances in order can sometimes feel like learning a new language and as you try + implement new tactics you can find yourself reverting back to your ‘native tongue’. That’s human nature. To accomplish big financial freedom goals takes movement, taking steps in the right direction and knowing how ONE decision MAY after another.

As the ‘designated finance person’ of your family navigating everything can be a bit much.

The investment property, your own savings, what to do with your tax refund, focus on debt or save, daily money management, ugh. Financial stress is no joke and something we take very seriously. There’s a better way. And that way doesn’t mean spreadsheet after spreadsheet, or limiting your spending all the way to deprivation mode.

The Porte Rouge Process identifies three key factors in financial planning and investing in real estate, they are:

KNOWLEDGE: You are smart. You know A LOT OF THINGS. But you have questions. And sometimes those questions get you answers and sometimes they lead to more questions.

TOOLS + SYSTEMS: You are a human. You only have so much capacity. And having easy to use tools, systems and processes will allow you to speed up, slow down or go into autopilot mode when needed. Without tools + systems YOU are too essential to the progress - which HELLO PRESSURE! No thanks.

ADVISORY: You are unique. Your goals are personal. Your path to get there will also be custom. Trying to follow cookie cutter advice will feel like getting parenting advice from your friends that have no kids but a bunch of pets. It’s NOT the SAME. Get advice from professionals and people who are 5 steps ahead of you. Game changer.
